So let’s see how they all compare. Starting with the X5M, it’s powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 625hp and 750Nm of torque. It tips the scales at 2,410kg, and it costs £121,000. Next up it’s the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which is equipped with a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers 640hp and 850Nm. It weighs in at 2,200kg, and it costs £150,000. Verdict The F-Pace SVR blends speed and sophistication in a way only a Jaguar can. Overview The standard Jaguar F-Pace is already a stunner of an SUV, but the 2023 F-Pace SVR takes its performance up a notch with a supercharged 550-hp V-8 engine and a more focused driving demeanor. The roaring engine motivated the Jag SUV to 60 mph in an impressive 3.7 seconds in our testing—but some of its rivals are quicker still. The Jag’s handling isn’t quite up to par with those competitors either, especially the Porsche Macan GTS and the BMW X3 M. To soften the blow of not being the quickest or the most agile, the F-Pace SVR treats its driver and passengers to a refined interior lined with premium materials and plentiful technology features. What's New for 2023? Jaguar is celebrating the anniversary of its 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans win this year with a limited run of Edition 1988 models of the F-Pace SVR. This purple Jag wears gold-colored wheels and other gold trim elements, but it doesn’t have any performance-enhancing goodies. Only 394 will be produced. Pricing and Which One to Buy F-Pace SVR: $90,650 Edition 1988: $111,150 Historically, Jaguar has offered the F-Pace SVR in a single lavishly equipped spec, but this year a limited series of the Edition 1988 will be offered too. We’d suggest sticking with the regular model as the Edition 1988 is likely to sell out quickly anyway. Standard equipment is generous, as it should be given the SUV's base price. Engine, Transmission, and Performance All Jaguar F-Pace SVR SUVs come with a muscular supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 under the hood. This engine generates an impressive 550 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to all four wheels. In our testing, the F-Pace SVR made the 60-mph run in a scant 3.7 seconds. But while 3.7 seconds is indeed impressive for a vehicle this size, it trails the time logged by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. That SUV made the dash in a crisp 3.4 seconds. The F-Pace SVR offers keen handling and precise steering but not at the expense of driver comfort. Jaguar tuned the SVR to ride softly over harsh roads, making this ute a pleasant choice for daily commutes. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG According to the EPA's methodology, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR achieves fuel-economy ratings of 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. These numbers are eclipsed by those of rivals such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (17/23 mpg) and Mercedes-AMG GLC63 (16/22 mpg). In our time with the Jaguar, we faired a little better than expected, observing 24 mpg on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test. The aggressively bolstered front seats are attractive to the eyes and comfortable to the backsides. We're fans of the quilted upholstery, which boosts the luxury quotient within the cabin. Both rows of seats provide reasonably roomy accommodations for adults. The F-Pace SVR offers 34 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row. That's considerably more cargo capacity than you'll find in rival models such as the Porsche Macan (18 cubic feet) and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (19 cubic feet). Plus, the F-Pace SVR's rear seat has a 40/20/40 split that allows you to accommodate a variety of luggage while also keeping some seating available. Infotainment and Connectivity Jaguar has equipped the F-Pace SVR with a load of tech features. All models come standard with an 11-speaker Meridian audio system and an infotainment system with a 11.4-inch touchscreen. Di quella idea di Matra sviluppata da Renault a partire dal 1984, dunque, non è rimasto molto...anche se la voglia di offrire sette posti in un contenitore tecnologico ed al passo coi tempi è sempre la stessa. Basata sulla piattaforma modulare CMF-CD dell’Alleanza Renault Nissan, la nuova Espace 2023 è lunga 4,72 metri - 14 cm in meno rispetto alla generazione precedente - con una lunghezza abitabile aumentata a 2,48 metri. Quest’accorgimento va a vantaggio soprattutto dei passeggeri della seconda fila, dove lo spazio per le ginocchia arriva fino a 321 mm, ma non solo; anche ai passeggeri della terza fila (7 posti disponibile gratuitamente al momento dell’ordine) è stata riservata grande attenzione. Dispongono, infatti, di due sedili con uno spazio per le ginocchia di 128 mm e della massima accessibilità grazie alla funzione Easy Access, che permette di far scorrere la seconda fila su 260 mm e di incrementare l’inclinazione dello schienale. Ogni occupante può contare su una cintura dotata di pretensionatore, plafoniera con interruttore a sfioro, presa di ricarica USB-C e, in funzione delle versioni, impianto hi-fi Harman Kardon. Il tetto panoramico, in opzione, consente ai passeggeri di godere di un abitacolo più luminoso che mai. Morbidi e confortevoli, invitano a riposarsi e rilassarsi. Espace si è dotato per la prima volta, nella seconda fila, di una panchetta scorrevole a piacere su 220 mm, suddivisa in due parti indipendenti 60/40. Ciò significa che, alla massima estensione, i passeggeri possono contare sulla migliore profondità disponibile sul mercato per le ginocchia (fino a 321 mm) o su un portabagagli che, nella versione a 5 posti, raggiunge una capacità di 777 litri (norma VDA). Grazie alla piattaforma CMF-CD condivisa con Nuovo Renault Austral, Nuovo Espace è ribassato di 32 mm e più leggero di 215 kg rispetto al modello precedente. Circa la metà della riduzione di peso è dovuta alle dimensioni più contenute, nonostante l’abitabilità sia stata preservata. Il resto è essenzialmente dovuto alla motorizzazione E-Tech Full Hybrid, più leggera rispetto ai diesel della precedente generazione, agli assali e ai sedili meno pesanti. Quest’impresa tecnica è associata all’ottimizzazione dell’aerodinamica ottenuta grazie al design dei nuovi retrovisori, alla linea del tetto spiovente che si conclude con un alettone e alla presenza di prese d’aria nel paraurti posteriore che migliorano la resistenza. Con tutte queste caratteristiche, Nuovo Espace, dotato di motore E-Tech Full Hybrid da 200 cv (si vedano i dettagli a pag. 10), consuma 4,6 l/ 100 km in ciclo misto secondo la norma WLTP. Un risparmio che gli offre un’autonomia fino a 1.100 km. La versione più leggera di Nuovo Espace, efficiente nei consumi, emette solo 104 grammi di CO2 al chilometro, ossia il 35% in meno rispetto al modello precedente. Un enorme progresso al servizio di una mobilità più sostenibile. Nuovo Espace raggiunge così i massimi livelli del segmento in termini di autonomia ed emissioni di CO2. Queste ottime prestazioni sono premiate, in Francia, dall’assenza di sanzioni ecologiche. Nuovo Espace è alimentato dal motore di nuova generazione Renault E-Tech Full Hybrid. È composta da un motore termico turbo 3 cilindri benzina da 1,2 litri e 130 cv (96 kW) con coppia di 205 Nm e da due motori elettrici (200 CV complessivi): - il motore elettrico principale da 50 kW, ossia 70 cv con coppia di 205 Nm, alimentato da una batteria agli ioni di litio da 2 kWh/400V, che viene utilizzato per la guida elettrica. - il motore elettrico secondario, anche noto come starter ad alta tensione (High-voltage Starter Generator - HSG), da 25 cv con coppia di 50 Nm, che viene utilizzato per l’avviamento del motore termico e per il cambio marce. Lows Outrageously priced high-end models, gas-guzzling V-8 powertrains, similarly priced rivals offer more badge envy. Verdict The Escalade is the modern American luxury vehicle writ huge. Overview The Cadillac Escalade has long served as the brand’s flagship, its huge size and aggressive looks broadcasting its extroverted, red-blooded American take on luxury. Despite being based on the same underpinnings as the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon, the Escalade makes a solid case as a competitor to other large luxury SUVs like the Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. That’s because the big Caddy features the brand’s most advanced technology and most luxurious features. Its cabin is lined with wood, leather, designer fabrics, and satin-finished metals. A large, curved display sweeps across the dashboard, serving as both a gauge cluster and an infotainment center. A host of driver-assistance features are available, including Cadillac’s excellent Super Cruise system, which combines adaptive cruise control with a hands-free driving mode. Buyers can choose from a strong 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 or a diesel-powered inline-six, and this year Cadillac adds a wild high-performance V-series model with mega horsepower to the Escalade lineup. This year marks the birth of the first V-series Escalade. The high-performance Escalade V is likely to be powered by a 682-hp version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine borrowed from the 10Best award-winning CT5-V Blackwing sedan. It also rocks a menacing, blacked-out exterior appearance. The V model comes standard with all-wheel drive and sports six-piston Brembo performance brakes with red-painted calipers. The Escalade’s air suspension has been retuned to enhance handling in the V model. The Escalade V will go on sale in the summer of 2022 and will sit atop the Cadillac lineup with a $149,990 starting price. Pricing and Which One to Buy Luxury: $82,690 Premium Luxury: $91,490 Sport: $94,490 Premium Luxury Platinum: $108,990 Sport Platinum: $108,990 V-Series: $152,590 To deck out the Escalade with its best features, go for the Premium Luxury Platinum trim. It adds semi-aniline leather, 16-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, soft-close doors, and an AKG audio system with 36 speakers. It also comes standard with a self-parking feature, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control. For performance fireworks, of course, there’s a one-letter answer: V. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Cadillac's biggest SUV is powered by a standard 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes 420 horsepower and can deactivate half of its cylinders when cruising to save fuel; a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six is also available. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines, and buyers can choose from rear- or all-wheel-drive setups. As with its siblings, the current-generation Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon, the Escalade rides on an independent rear suspension that provides additional third-row legroom, which was compromised in the previous solid rear-axle model. Higher-end trims also offer an air suspension with adaptive dampers. At our test track, the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV with the V-8 engine sprinted to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. The 277-hp diesel engine doesn’t deliver nearly the straight-line performance of the standard V-8, but for some buyers that compromise is worth the improved fuel economy and punchy 460 lb-ft of low-end torque. For those Escalade fans with a need for speed, only the V will do. It’s powered by a beastly supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 making 682 horsepower, which proved to be enough power to blast the big SUV to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds at our test track. During our initial test drive, we were impressed with the V-8's power and its baritone burble. The modifications to the SUV's suspension make it handle better than the standard SUV, but the Escalade still doesn't feel as nimble as rivals such as the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 or the BMW Alpina XB7.
